Abstract:

Generative artificial intelligence (AI) is a rapidly advancing field that can create new content, such as text, images, and music, with limited human intervention. This seminar aims to explore the use of generative AI in higher education and examine the ethical considerations, challenges, and opportunities that come with it.

Our speakers, Mr Dick CHAN and Mr Kelvin WAN will provide an overview of ChatGPT, its alternatives, and AI detection tools. Next, Mr Michael CHENG will share his views on how AI technologies can assist in teaching, learning, and research in higher education. Following the speakers’ presentations, a panel discussion with members from the School of Business, Mr Roy YING, Professor Lianxi ZHOU, and the speakers, facilitated by Professor Bradley BARNES, will explore the opportunities, challenges, and ethical considerations of AI in higher education. The discussion may cover the following potential topics:

1. The impact of generative AI on academic integrity

2. The ethical considerations in teaching and learning

3. Strategies for faculty and student preparation

4. The potential of generative AI in promoting inclusivity and diversity in higher education, and more
