Seminar on “Engaging Students to Grow and Glow in HSMC”

With the aim to facilitate colleagues to have a better understanding of how the rapidly changing trends of local higher education impact student affairs, the Office of Vice-President (Organisational Development), the Centre for Teaching and Learning and the Staff Development Committee jointly organised a seminar entitled “Engaging Students to Grow and Glow in HSMC” on 1 February 2018. Dr Tom Fong, Vice-President (Organisational Development) and Ms Rebecca Chan, Director of Student Affairs were invited as the seminar speakers.

In the seminar, Dr Fong and Ms Chan shared with participants the development of higher education in Hong Kong, the findings of students’ needs and employers’ expectations, the challenges that we face in terms of mental health and civic engagement in recent years, and those impacts on student affairs. Participants were then provided with a number of real life cases and dilemmas for a group discussion and they actively took part in sharing their views. Dr Fong and Ms Chan gave constructive feedback and interacted with participants on their insights. The seminar ended with the seven principles of working with students for engaging them to “grow and glow” in HSMC.
