The Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) celebrated a significant milestone—the 10th Anniversary of the HSUHK Teaching Excellence Awards, themed “Celebrating Teaching Excellence: A Decade of Innovation, A Lifetime of Transformation”, on 11 June 2025.
Established in 2015, the Centre is dedicated to fostering collaboration and engagement through a wide range of initiatives that support both teachers and students across four key areas: Digital Learning, Service-Learning, Teaching and Learning Enhancement, and Virtual Reality Centre. The year 2025 also marked the 10th anniversary of the HSUHK Teaching Excellence Awards, for which recipients were selected on a competitive basis. Since its launch in 2014-15, over 50 faculty members have received the Awards.
The ceremony opened with a welcome address from Professor Simon Ho, President of HSUHK. He said, “Our commitment to excellence is reflected in our state-of-the-art facilities that foster creativity and engagement. Our dedicated and passionate teachers continually develop innovative and effective teaching methods to help students discover their interests and unleash their potential”. He expressed his sincere gratitude to each recipient of the Teaching Excellence Awards for their contributions to cultivating excellence in teaching and learning.
In her opening remarks, Professor Jeanne Fu, Vice-President (Learning and Student Experience), highlighted the University’s commitment to embracing new and emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, to enhance personalised learning and meet the diverse needs of 21st century learners. During the ceremony, she announced the establishment of the HSUHK Teaching Dedication Recognition to commemorate the significant milestones of the University’s 45th anniversary and the 10th anniversary of the HSUHK Teaching Excellence Awards. This recognition honours the distinguished teachers with over 10 years of service who achieved an average satisfaction score of 5.0 or above in the Students’ Feedback on Modules and Teaching Questionnaire and taught at least three classes each academic year from 2014/15 to 2023/24. She was proud to share that over 20% of the full-time academic staff were recognised.
Dr Ben Cheng, Director of the CTL, expressed his excitement and gratitude for celebrating the Centre’s 10th anniversary with all the guests. He emphasised “Innovation” and “Transformation” are the key words of the anniversary ceremony theme, highlighting the Centre’s commitment to enhancing the teaching and learning experience for the entire HSUHK community through innovative pedagogy and transformative education. During the ceremony, he also announced the launch of the seventh edition of My Teaching Story, showcasing the teaching journeys of the 2023-24 academic year’s Teaching Excellence Award recipients.
To celebrate teaching excellence, President Ho presented each recipient of the HSUHK Teaching Excellence Awards for the 2023-24 academic year with a special edition of My Teaching Story and took a group photo with all past award recipients. After this, a celebratory sharing session, featuring the recipients — Dr Christine Choy, Assistant Professor at the Department of Art and Design, Mr Ricky Lam, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Accountancy, and Mr Harry Lee, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Supply Chain and Information Management, titled “Integrating Technology for Transformative Learning Experiences” took place.
As one of the highlights of the ceremony, Professor Joshua Mok moderated a roundtable forum with HSUHK School Deans, including Professor Sam Park, Dean of Business, Professor Scarlet Tso, Dean of Communication, Professor Chan Wai Sum, Dean of Decision Sciences, Dr Paul Fung, Associate Dean of Humanities and Social Science, and Professor Mark Shuttleworth, Dean of Translation and Foreign Languages. The forum facilitated an insightful discussion on “Innovating Pedagogy: Cultivating Teaching and Learning Excellence for the Next Decade at HSUHK”, focusing on innovative educational strategies, technology integration, interdisciplinary collaboration, and enhancing global experiences.
To celebrate this momentous milestone, Professor Joshua Mok, Professor Jeanne Fu, and the respective School Deans presented recognition to each Teaching Dedication Recognition recipient before the end of the ceremony. The event was attended by over 100 distinguished guests, including representatives from local institutions, corporate partners, past HSUHK Teaching Excellence Award recipients, and staff members.
