10th VRC Anniversary Talk: Unleash the potential in VR Metaverse: Trends, Applications and Outlook

On 11 September 2025, the Virtual Reality Centre (VRC) hosted a talk titled “Unleash the Potential in VR Metaverse: Trends, Applications and Outlook,” in celebration of the VRC’s 10th anniversary and HSUHK 45th anniversary. The event was held at the Stella Fung Siu Wan Space for All in the library, welcoming 63 participants, including staff, students, and external guests.

 

The event commenced with opening remarks by Professor Jeanne Fu, Vice-President (Learning and Student Experience), and Dr Eugene Wong, Director of the Virtual Reality Centre. The first speaker, Dr Leith K. Y. Chan, Founder and Director of Votanic Limited and IT Manager at The University of Hong Kong, delivered a presentation on “From Innovation to Commercialisation: Transforming VR Research into Real-World Solutions.” Mr Steven Cheng, Co-Founder of Inspekly and Chief Operating Officer at Visionaries 777, shared his perspectives on “Leading Extended Reality (XR) in Commercial Applications: Retail, Marketing and Training.” Mr Ray Mok, 3D Animation Director at VX Real, presented the topic on “O2O VR Metaverse Music Concert.”

 

The individual presentations were followed by an interactive panel discussion, where speakers engaged in a dynamic conversation exploring the future of VR technologies and their practical applications.
