From Set to Screen XR Filming & Post-Production Essentials

On 26 March 2026, the Centre for Teaching and Learning’s Teaching and Learning Enhancement Section co-organised a workshop with Information Technology Services Centre (ITSC) titled “From Set to Screen XR Filming & Post-Production Essentials”.

The workshop delivered by Mr Kyle Chau and Mr Charles Kwan from ITSC’s Creative Media Services (CMS) Team, introduced HSUHK students to the state-of-the-art facilities at the Martin Ka Shing Lee (MKSL) Innovation Lab (CR011) and Multimedia Commons (CR106).

The MKSL Innovation Lab features advanced virtual production tools, including the Disguise XR system used in top film and live productions. It enables immersive, realistic virtual environments while improving efficiency and overcoming common green screen limitations. Through Mr Chau’s introduction to the Lab, students gained essential insights into the fundamentals of virtual production and engaged directly with immersive virtual environments.

The workshop concluded with the visit to the Multimedia Commons. Guided by Mr Kwan, students explored the essentials of video editing through the use of Adobe Premiere Pro using the high-end computers equipped at CR106 to facilitate video production. To further strengthen their understanding, students were given hands-on exercises to edit a sample video.

Overall, the workshop was a fruitful and inspiring learning experience for students, allowing them to explore the exciting possibilities of XR filming and post-production through a combination of technical insights and hands-on practice. By engaging with both virtual production and video editing, participants gained a clearer understanding of the creative workflow and the possibilities offered by industry-standard technologies.

Furthermore, ITSC would offer open sessions at the Multimedia Commons in April to further encourage staff and students to use its facilities.
