Mr Kelvin Wan, Digital Learning Specialist of the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL), was invited by the Centre for Learning and Teaching of the Vocational Training Council (VTC) to deliver a webinar titled “Transforming Pedagogical Design with AI-Empowered Game-Based Learning” on 24 September 2026. The webinar attracted around 265 VTC colleagues.
Rather than focusing solely on using Generative AI to create games, the 90-minute interactive webinar explored the pedagogical decisions behind effective game-based learning, including instructional goals, game mechanics, feedback, player personas and experiential learning. Participants experienced several learning games and examined how different design choices could influence the learning experience.
Kelvin also shared HSUHK’s GenAI-Driven Game-Based Experiential Learning Framework, together with research findings and authentic student projects developed across different disciplines. The session highlighted that while GenAI can make game creation more accessible, effective learning still depends on educators’ pedagogical judgement and thoughtful design.
CTL will continue to share HSUHK’s practices and experiences in the innovative use of Generative AI and digital pedagogy with the wider education community.
