AI Hub@HSU has officially launched Foundations of AI in Teaching and Learning, a self-paced online course designed to strengthen AI literacy across The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK). The initiative was jointly developed by the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL), the Information Technology Services Centre (ITSC) and the University Library (LIB).
Open to HSUHK staff and students, the course provides a common foundation for understanding and using Generative AI responsibly, ethically and effectively. It comprises six online modules requiring approximately four to five hours to complete and is aligned with the UNESCO AI Competency Framework.
The six-module learning journey covers AI capabilities and the respective roles of humans and AI; effective prompting; critical evaluation of AI-generated outputs; ethics and governance; the application of AI to learning and productivity; and an integrative capstone assessment. Learners are introduced to approaches for communicating clearly with AI, identifying bias, verifying claims, protecting privacy and maintaining academic integrity.
Short videos, practical use cases, interactive activities, quizzes and scenario-based learning support learners in connecting key concepts with academic and professional contexts. Participants who successfully complete the course will receive a Certificate of Completion.
Undergraduate students can earn 1 iGPS for completing the online course and obtaining its certificate between 5 and 31 October 2026.
