Event Highlights
The Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL), Human Resources Office (HRO), and Office of Provost and Vice-President (Academic and Research) (PV/VPARO) collaborated to organise the HSUHK Induction Programme for New Academic Staff. This two-day programme included two seminars held on 16 and 17 August 2023, providing new teachers with a comprehensive understanding of teaching and learning at HSUHK.
The Programme commenced with Dr Ben Cheng, Director of CTL, delivering warm Welcome Remarks and introducing the HSUHK Senior Management to the new academic staff members. A “Getting to Know Each Other” session followed, allowing School Deans to introduce their Schools and extend a heartfelt welcome to the newly joined staff members.
During the Programme, President Simon Ho shared his valuable insights on the latest developments at HSUHK. This was followed by presentations from Professor Jeanne Fu, Acting Vice-President (Learning and Student Experience), Professor Yer Van Hui, Provost and Vice-President (Academic and Research), and Dr Tom Fong, Vice-President (Organisational Development). They provided an overview of teaching, research, student learning, and organisational development at HSUHK, covering topics such as funding, support, performance assessment, management structure, supporting units and services, campus wellness, and more.

Professor Jeanne Fu shared her insights and provided valuable perspectives on teaching and student learning experiences at HSUHK.
Professor Yer Van Hui provided an overview of the University’s research and scholarship as well as performance review process to new academic staff members.
Dr Tom Fong shared the overview of HSUHK organisational development with the participants.
The two-day HSUHK Induction Programme 2023
In the afternoon session, a seminar titled “Teaching and Learning with Emerging Technologies” was held in smart classroom A403. Co-facilitated by Dr George Ho, Associate Director (E-Learning), and Mr Matt Chan, Senior Systems Engineer (Virtual Reality Centre) from CTL, the seminar highlighted the incorporation of emerging technologies in the curriculum and teaching approaches. Dr Ho demonstrated practical examples of various advanced e-Learning tools, while Mr Chan showcased how virtual reality, augmented reality, and related technologies enhance the overall teaching and learning experience. The seminar concluded with a visit to the Virtual Reality Centre.

On the second day of the Programme, new academic staff members attended a seminar titled “Beyond the Traditional Classroom: Exploring OBTL and Innovative Pedagogies“. Co-facilitated by Dr Holly Chung, Associate Director (Teaching and Learning Enhancement); Dr Victor Chan, Associate Director (Service-Learning) from CTL; Dr Amy Wang, Assistant Professor and Dr Jack Wu, Associate Professor, from the Department of Management and Department of Supply Chain and Information Management respectively. The speakers emphasized the importance of Outcome-Based Teaching and Learning (OBTL) in today’s educational landscape, introducing practical applications of OBTL across various teaching disciplines to enhance the learning experience for students.
The two-day Induction Programme for new academic staff members provided valuable insights into the University’s latest developments and equipped them with the knowledge and tools to contribute effectively to HSUHK academic community and enhance student learning experiences.
