At HSUHK Information Day 2025, the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) hosted an interactive booth under the theme “AI: Empowering Minds, Enriching Lives” at the Stella Fung Siu Wan Space for All, Library G/F. The booth featured the project “Game-Based Learning and Generative AI: Transforming Education Across Disciplines at HSUHK”, jointly led by Ir Dr George Ho, Associate Director of CTL, and Mr Kelvin Wan, Digital Learning Specialist. The project was shortlisted for the “Best Use of Generative AI” category at the 2024 QS Reimagine Education Awards.
Throughout the day, over 150 participants — including secondary school students, parents and visitors — engaged with student-designed educational games and hands-on AI activities. Guests were invited to try text-to-image AI technology on the spot, creating their own visuals while learning how Generative AI can enhance storytelling, game mechanics and interactivity in teaching and learning.
Since the project launch in 2023, the initiative has engaged over 600 students from modules ranging from Cultural Heritage to Personal Finance, using a GenAI-Driven Game-Based Experiential Learning Framework. Students design educational games enhanced by Generative AI tools to strengthen storytelling, game mechanics and interactivity, while developing critical thinking, collaboration, ethical reasoning and creativity.
Building on this momentum, CTL is developing a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) titled “From Concept to Classroom: Educational Game Design with Generative AI”, extending HSUHK’s expertise to a wider community of educators and learners.
