We are thrilled to announce that the HSUHK Symposium on Using Generative AI (ChatGPT) to Enhance Academic Teaching, a joint effort by the Research Institute for Business (RIB) and the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL), was successfully held on 10 Oct 2024.
The symposium, tailored for educators eager to explore the transformative potential of Generative AI in education, featured two engaging sessions that delved deeply into the applications and implications of this technology.
In the first session, our HSUHK colleagues introduced innovative ways of integrating Generative AI into education. Ms Rosalie WOO showcased how AI can create interactive financial planning games for the elderly and had her students present their project, highlighting AI’s practical applications in addressing real-world challenges.
Additionally, Mr Kelvin WAN and Dr Christine CHOY shared insights on the use of AI in preserving heritage and managing cultural heritage, highlighting the intersection of technology and tradition in creative ways.
Furthermore, Ms Laura CAVANNA provided a fascinating glimpse into the realm of architecture and design, demonstrating how AI can enhance creativity and problem-solving in these fields.
During the second session, external experts shared cutting-edge research on Generative AI in education. Dr Simon Wang from HKBU presented his findings on the effectiveness of a customised chatbot for research literature summarisation and discovery, focusing on the intricate role of machine learning in this process.
Professor Eric Tsui from PolyU captivated the audience with a demonstration of a quiz competition where he pitted his wits against AI, showcasing the potential for AI to revolutionise interactive learning experiences.
This symposium, held in conjunction with the CTL’s 10th anniversary celebration, marked a significant milestone in the advancement of academic teaching and learning at HSUHK. Participants engaged in interactive discussions, shared ideas, posed thought-provoking questions, and forged connections with like-minded colleagues who share a passion for exploring the educational applications of Generative AI.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all who contributed to the success of this symposium. As we look towards the future, we anticipate continued collaboration and exploration in harnessing the potential of Generative AI to enhance educational practices and outcomes.
