Abstract

The Hong Kong government does have support for the family care of chronic patients but it does not enough. There is only the Social Welfare Department in charges of it. According to the Social Welfare Department, there are six subvented Parents / Relatives Resource Centres (PRCs) in Hong Kong. Their services included support services for groups, individuals and mass activities. Also, resource materials and community education programme. However, this kind of service are not effective enough to help the family care of patients the needed is too much but the government does not put enough resources into it. Also, the government may think that economic support may be the most effective way to help those families. From the current solution by the Hong Kong government, there is an ongoing scheme called “Pilot Scheme on Living Allowance for Carers of Elderly Persons from Low-income Families Phase III”. This scheme aims at providing economic support for the cares of elderly but actually it is not easy to apply and the amount is only HKD$2000. It may not be a great help to those families. It is reasonable that the economic pressure may be the main source of stress, but the government has to take care of the mental health also.
To ease the problems, it is hoped that the chronic patients and their family move into the complex building that we designed. Which is a brand-new solution to help the family care of patients.
