UTLQC and CTL co-organised HSUHK Teaching Excellence Awards (2023/24) Workshop – From Good to Great: Enhancing Your Teaching Statement and Portfolio for Teaching Excellence Award Applications

Event Highlights

The University launched the HSUHK Teaching Excellence Awards (TEAs) in the 2014-15 academic year to recognise the invaluable contribution of our distinguished teachers, who demonstrate outstanding teaching performance, a commitment to continuous improvement in pedagogy, and a significant impact on teaching and learning. The applications for the year 2023/24 were opened in July for ALL HSUHK academic staff members.

To support applicants in preparing  their teaching statements and portfolios for submission, the University Teaching and Learning Quality Committee (UTLQC), in collaboration with the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL), organised a workshop on 12 August 2024. The workshop began with opening remarks by Professor Jeanne Fu, Chairman of the University Teaching and Learning Quality Committee (UTLQC) cum Vice-President (Learning and Student Experience) and an introduction to the TEAs by Dr Ben Cheng, Director of the Centre for Teaching and Learning.

Former award recipients, Dr Holly Chung, Senior Lecturer of the Department of English and Dr Daniel Mo, Associate Professor of the Department of Supply Chain and Information Management, who have been recognised multiple times, were invited to share their valuable insights and practical tips on creating appealing teaching statements and portfolios. Dr Ben Cheng concluded the workshop by emphasising the importance of aligning beliefs and values with teaching methods in applicants’ statements.

The workshop, conducted in a hybrid format, drew over 20 academic staff members. For a recap of the presentations by the speakers, please access the information via the following links:
