VRC Launches VR LED CAVE and Unveils Traditional Chinese Medicine VR Platform

The Virtual Reality Centre (VRC) officially launched its new Virtual Reality (VR) LED CAVE and unveiled the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) VR Platform at a ceremony held on 10 September 2026 at Room A404 of the S H Ho Academic Building.

The ceremony began with opening remarks by Prof Joshua Mok, President of HSUHK and Prof Jeanne Fu, Vice-President (Learning and Student Experience).

Prof Eugene Wong, Director of the Virtual Reality Centre, presented the University’s vision for advancing immersive technologies through the newly established VR LED CAVE. He highlighted how the VR LED CAVE reduces physical barriers between traditional classrooms and VR learning environments, extending learning beyond conventional limitations, enabling multi-CAVE collaborative learning, and meeting growing expectations for high-resolution and realistic visualisation.

The newly launched VR LED CAVE provides an immersive environment equipped with high-resolution LED displays, stereoscopic 3D visualisation, motion tracking, and support for multi-user collaboration. The facility is designed to facilitate immersive teaching and learning activities, pitching and presentations. It also creates opportunities for cross-institutional collaboration through multi-CAVE interaction.

Prof Joshua Mok, Principal Investigator of the Sin Wai Kin Chinese Culture Promotion Scheme – Traditional Chinese Medicine in VR Project, shared how the platform combines modern VR technology with traditional Chinese cultural heritage to enhance public understanding of TCM. The TCM VR Platform features an immersive virtual Chinese medicine cabinet, clinic and herbal learning environment. The platform includes interactive features such as problem-based learning games and virtual experiences allow users to explore herbal selection, preparation, and application within a virtual environment.
