VRC Concludes Virtual Reality Exhibition at Haw Par Mansion

Virtual Reality Centre (VRC) announces the successful conclusion of its Virtual Reality exhibition, “Virtual Reality: The ‘Ten Courts of Hell’ of Tiger Balm Garden,” which ran from 16 May 2025 to 30 November 2025 at the Haw Par Mansion, Tai Hang. The exhibition offered visitors a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the historical and cultural significance of the ‘Ten Courts of Hell,’ a narrative inspired by Chinese mythology and traditionally depicted in the Tiger Balm Garden.

During its six-month run, the exhibition welcomed a total of 6,316 visitors through government-led guided tours. Among these, 2,285 individuals engaged with the “Ten Courts of Hell” virtual reality experience. The exhibition attracted a diverse audience, with participants spanning several generations from various cultural backgrounds.

To engage students in this meaningful event, 32 students attending a general education module entitled ‘Virtual Reality and Meta Technologies for Society’ volunteered as helpers during various sessions of the exhibition. These students played an important role in assisting with VR demonstrations and survey distribution, allowing exhibition participants to gain hands-on experience while contributing to the exhibition’s success as part of their service-learning initiatives.

On 28 November 2025, representatives from organisers and sponsors gathered for a memorable photo session at the Haw Par Mansion to mark the success of the exhibition. The exhibition was co-organised by the Virtual Reality Centre, Centre of Teaching and Learning, Department of Art and Design, and School of Decision Sciences of HSUHK, Hong Kong Chu Hai College, and the Antiquities and Monuments Office (AMO) of the Development Bureau (DEVB), with sponsorship from the Aw Boon Haw Foundation and venue support from the Commissioner for Heritage’s Office of the DEVB.
