Digital Learning Section Shares Innovative Approaches to AI-Enhanced Learning Design at an Inter-Institutional Workshop

Mr Kelvin Wan, Digital Learning Specialist of the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL), was invited to deliver a sharing session at the Service-Learning Workshop organised by the Centre for Learning Enhancement And Research (CLEAR), The Chinese University of Hong Kong, in collaboration with partner institutions.

The session, titled “Generative AI as a Learning Partner: Enhancing Service-Learning Through Game-Based Learning and Experiential Approaches”, attracted over 160 participants from higher education institutions and educational organisations.

During the workshop, participants explored how Generative AI can be meaningfully integrated into service-learning through pedagogically grounded approaches, including game-based learning, experiential learning, and reflective learning activities. Drawing on authentic teaching and learning initiatives at HSUHK, the sharing highlighted how AI can support student learning, creativity, and critical thinking when aligned with clear learning outcomes, assessment strategies, and purposeful learning design.

The session also showcased practical examples of student-designed educational games and discussed the evolving role of Generative AI as a learning partner in higher education. The workshop generated active discussions among participants and provided a valuable platform for exchanging ideas on the effective and responsible use of AI in teaching and learning.
