Centre for Teaching and Learning hosts the HSUHK Teaching Excellence Awards (2024-25) Sharing Seminar II

On 9 April 2026, the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) hosted the HSUHK Teaching Excellence Awards (2024-25) Sharing Seminar II, titled “Learning to Do, Doing to Learn: A Reflection on Teaching and Transformation”. The seminar was delivered by 2024-25 Teaching Excellence Awards recipient, Dr Andy Cheng, Associate Professor of the Department of Economics and Finance, and moderated by Dr Ben Cheng, Director of CTL. Nearly 30 teachers and students attended the seminar.

Dr Andy Cheng reflected on his teaching journey and the adoption of the “Learning to Do, Doing to Learn” approach, emphasising that students learn best through application. As a scholar‑practitioner, he bridged academic theory and industry practice by designing classrooms, projects and competitions as “live laboratories” for real‑world learning. He also shared his experience coaching the Cyberport University Partnership Programme (CUPP) teams, highlighting how confidence building and resilience created a positive “ripple effect” beyond the classroom.

Two student participants: Ramiro Reeze Anne Mendoza, (BBA (Hons) in Financial Analysis and FinTech, Year 2) and Kwong Wai Pong, (BBA (Hons) in Corporate Governance and Compliance, Year 3), further reflected on how mentorship and real‑world challenges built confidence and practical skills.

Guest speaker Professor Daniel Mo from the Department of Supply Chain and Information Management further enriched the discussion by sharing perspectives on mentoring and coaching students for competitions. He also highlighted the value of reflective teaching, where educators learn from one another’s strengths while addressing areas for self enhancement.
