From Sources to Stories: CTL Supports AI-Enhanced Research and Digital Storytelling

On 13 October 2026, the Digital Learning Section delivered a hands-on workshop, From Sources to Stories, for postgraduate students in a course taught by Prof. Lucille Ngan. The workshop was facilitated by Mr Kelvin Wan, Digital Learning Specialist, and Ms Charlotte Lee, Senior Instructional Designer.

Designed to support the course’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) assessment, the workshop guided students through the process of transforming research evidence into meaningful digital stories using Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI).

In the first part, Kelvin introduced Google NotebookLM to support source discovery, evidence synthesis and critical evaluation. Using digital inclusion among older adults in Hong Kong as an example, students explored how to identify relevant evidence, verify AI-generated information and develop key messages grounded in credible sources. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of checking the accuracy and currency of information, even when AI responses include citations.

Building on these research findings, Charlotte guided students through visual storytelling and AI-assisted video production using NotebookLM, Canva, and Microsoft Clipchamp. Students explored how to communicate complex social issues through concise, engaging and evidence-based narratives.

The workshop provided an integrated learning experience connecting research, critical judgement and creative communication. Through practical activities, students developed skills in using GenAI responsibly while maintaining human oversight throughout the research and production process.

The session also demonstrated CTL’s commitment to providing discipline-specific, assessment-aligned digital learning support that helps teachers and students integrate emerging technologies into meaningful learning experiences.
