To enrich colleagues’ understanding of the development of English-language education across the curriculum, the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) and Staff Development Committee (SDC) jointly organized a seminar entitled “Is there a fix-all English curriculum or educational programme?” on 31 October 2019. Dr. Beatrice Ma from the Centre for Applied English Studies of HKU was invited as the speaker.
In the seminar, Dr. Ma presented and discussed the profile of Hong Kong tertiary students and the development of English-language curriculum of local universities; shared with the participants the research findings of students’ language learning experience and their difficulties. Dr. Ma also introduced the English-language curriculum of some local universities, shared her views on the current English-language curriculum at HSUHK and elaborated on how different Schools and study programmes could be working together to help develop our students’ language skills.
Participants from different Schools were keen to exchange their views with the speaker during the Q & A session, especially on the English-language needs of students in different study programmes.
