Topics, Speakers and Abstracts:
Bridging Gaps through Service-Learning
Ms WONG Mei Ki, Maggie, Senior Lecturer, Department of Social Science
Service-learning is not only learning by serving, but also bridging gaps – gap in understanding the society and gap with social groups in segregation. Sweet and bitter lessons will be shared about the service-learning journeys with my students.
Integration of Service-Learning into Translation Teaching: Where Translation Technology Meets Heritage Revitalisation
Dr SIU Sai Cheong, Associate Professor, School of Translation and Foreign Languages
I will discuss the incorporation of service-learning elements into TRA3105 Computer and Business Translation 1, an introductory module on translation technology. Since 2019/20, the module has been engaging students in translating research articles about the history of Luen Wo Market with the help of state-of-the-art translation systems, as part of a heritage preservation project managed by Hong Kong Lutheran Social Service.
All academic staff are welcome to join.
